Buying a UTV is a big purchase. Choosing the right UTV is time consuming. You want to make sure it is safe, a good fit for your family and the type of activities you like to enjoy. You also want to make sure you’re getting a good bang for your buck. To help you choose the right UTV, here is a guide that you can follow. Simply ask yourself each of these four questions… Work or Play? If you are going to use your UTV for play, you’ll want to choose something that is light, fast, and easy to maneuver. If you want to use your UTV for family outings, pay close attention to the seating arrangements. Some UTV’s have a bench seat that can hold up to three adults. Others have two rows of seats to hold up to four people. If you’re going to use your UTV for camping or hunting, you’ll also want to make sure you have enough space to pack your equipment. If you know your UTV is going to be used primarily for work, you’ll want to make sure it is big enough to handle whatever tasks you have in mind. You’ll also probably want to make sure it has plenty of room in the cargo box as well as a heavy weight capacity. And keep in mind that not all cargo boxes come with a tilt assist for dumping loads of dirt or gravel. If you’re using your UTV for work you’ll probably also want to make sure it has a good winch, solid suspension, and towing capabilities. 2x4 or 4x4? This question goes hand in hand with the intended purpose of your UTV. But if you plan to simply drive on dirt or gravel roads that are relatively flat, you don’t need four-wheel drive. How Safe? No matter what you plan to use your UTV for, you want to make sure it is safe for everyone who may be riding in it. This means you have an occupant protection system, or roll-bar device. Make sure that your ROPS is certified to meet safety standards; not all are! Consider Extras? It’s not just the body you have to think about when choosing the right UTV, but there are lots of options when it comes to UTV accessories. If you will be spending a lot of time in the elements, it’s a good idea to buy a UTV with a cab roof to protect you from the sun and rain. If you plan to ride in the snow you may want a full enclosed cabin. A windshield is a great addition that will keep you protected from debris as well as inclement weather. If a windshield is an accessory you want with your UTV, shop with UTV Windshields and Accessories for the best selection. As mentioned previously, a winch is also a great accessory to have when it comes to your UTV. Mud does not discriminate when it comes to getting stuck during work or play. Just make sure your winch has a very high weight capacity!
