UTV vs. ATV

So similar, yet so different -- your UTV and ATV both get you from point A to point B in a fun way, but they have very different qualities, pros, and cons. So if you’re in the market for a new toy and aren’t sure whether a UTV or ATV is best for you, here’s a look at UTV’s vs. ATV’s.

ATV (All-Terrain Vehicle)

An ATV, or all-terrain vehicle, are sometimes “quads” or “four-wheelers” because of their four wheel design. ATV’s are usually made for just a single rider or two, with an open design. If you’re looking to get as close to nature as possible, an ATV is one way to do it. As you cruise along mountain trails you’ll feel the wind on your face and back, with nothing at all between you and the elements. It’s like taking on your favorite trails on mechanical, and powerful horseback.

With that openness, riders have the ability to use their body weight to manipulate certain sticky situations, should their ATV get stuck or they are trying to make a tight corner. By the same token, that openness also means you’re more vulnerable. If you’re not careful, ATV accidents can be scary as riders can easily be thrown or pinned in an instant.

ATV’s come in a wide range of choices and options so you’ll have plenty to choose from, and generally they’re a little bit cheaper than UTV’s.

UTV (Utility Vehicle, or Utility Task Vehicle)

UTV’s (utility vehicle, or utility task vehicle) also have a four wheel design, but can be used for much more than just utility purposes! In fact, many UTV enthusiast use them strictly for recreation. One of the biggest advantages of choosing a UTV over an ATV is the fact that UTV’s are designed to safely carry more than one rider at a time.

Whether your UTV has two seats or four, it’s a toy that can provide fun for many friends or family members at once. While you may pay a little more for a UTV than for an ATV, more people will get more enjoyment out of it at one time which could actually be saving you money! (One UTV is probably going to be cheaper than two ATV’s).

And if you’re heading out with a group of people, you’ll want to have extra space to pack a lunch, bring the fishing poles, or camping gear! With a UTV, you can easily do just that with lots of storage space and options. Of course, a UTV is a great tool for jobs around the yard, farm, or even construction site. If you want versatility, a UTV is a great option.

Your UTV also provides a safe barrier between the elements. With a roll cage surrounding you, a roof overhead, and a UTV windshield protecting your view, you’ll feel safe and secure no matter what comes your way.
