How To Clean Your UTV Windshields On The Trail
Keeping your UTV’s windshield clean can be one of the trickier things to do while on the mountainside. However, the cleaner you keep it, the longer it will last. There are a few things you can do to keep the windshield on your UTV looking brand new.
Read on to learn how you can keep your UTV windshield clean while on the trail.
First Things First
The very first thing to note is that you should never use glass or window cleaners like Windex on your UTV’s windshield. The windshields on UTVs are made of durable polycarbonate material and are not made of glass. Cleaners like Windex will scratch or otherwise damage your windshield. Do not use Windex or other similar cleaners on your UTV windshield.
How Often Should I Clean My UTV Windshield?
You should clean your UTV’s windshield any time your windshield becomes dusty or muddy. If you are camping or on a trip where you’re using your UTV every day, you will likely be doing this at least once, maybe even two or three times each day.
How To Clean Your Utv Windshields On The Trail
Cleaning your windshields on the trail is just as easy as doing it at home. It only takes a couple of minutes and a few supplies. Each time you clean your windshield, you’ll need water, two or three clean microfiber cloths, and some UTV windshield safe cleaning spray, we like the Novus Plastic Clean and Shine spray. Be sure to bring these supplies on all your excursions.
The first step is to rinse your windshield with clean water. You can use a bottle of water, a cup full of water, or a hose. If you come across chunks of mud or dead bugs, you can use your hand or a wet microfiber cloth to gently wipe away the mess, being careful not to scratch the surface.
One the windshield has been thoroughly rinsed, dry your windshield using a clean, dry microfiber cloth. Start on one side of the machine and begin at the top, center point. In one clean, straight motion, wipe your windshield from the center to the outer edge, working in horizontal swipes. Do not wipe in circular or back-and-forth motions; only straight, horizontal motions. Use a clean part of your cloth for each wiping motion. Once one side is completed, move to the other side of your machine to complete the other half of the windshield.
Next, grab your Novus cleaner (or something similar). The Novus Plastic Clean and Shine cleaner is anti-static and anti-dust and will help repel dirt, dust, and other debris. Spray a light layer of the cleaner directly on your windshield. With a clean, dry microfiber, cloth, wipe it away using the same method you used earlier: long, straight, horizontal strokes starting at the midline, working your way out to the outer edge. Once you’ve completed one side, move to the other side to do the same.
