Don’t Buy a Used UTV If You Notice the Following

So you’re in the market for a UTV and think that you want to buy a used UTV to save on costs—-understandably.

There are a few things you want to make sure you look out for when purchasing an OHV that is not off the lot. We are sharing our tips and tricks to help you stay on top of your game and find a used UTV that will last you years to come.

Keep an Eye on the Frame

When you find the perfect used UTV from an awesome seller, the first place you want to start when you look at the vehicle is the frame. If you get under the vehicle and see any cracks, dents, bends, rusted over areas… take a walk. You do not want to sign for a used UTV that has a history of any bad accidents or crashes. You might be signing yourself up for a future of high-cost repairs and a machine that is dangerous and not dependable.

Pump the Brakes

When you take a look at your potential new (used) UTV, don’t forget to give the brakes a once-over. Get in and pump the brakes to see if you feel or hear anything that seems off. If you hear grinding, screeching, or any other noise that seems concerning, know that you will be fixing them soon, and it will cost you.

Ensure The Engine Is Working

Take the used UTV for a test drive before you buy it. Listen to the engine running and see if you hear anything abnormal. If it takes a while to start up, or you see smoke, these would be signs that the engine needs work. Park and let the engine sit idle for a little while to also gauge whether or not it is a solid working engine.

Inspect the Tires

If you know a thing or two about UTVs, you know that installing tires on these machines is not cheap. So it would only make sense that when looking to buy a used UTV, that you make sure the tires are in good shape. Take a look at each tire. If you see any patched holes, nails, or worn-down tread, you might want to consider the cash price of the vehicle in reference to how much it will cost you for new tires.

Check the Oil

Another important item to check off your list when looking at a used UTV is to check the oil. By checking the oil you will be able to tell if the engine will need work, as well as how the previous owner maintained the vehicle.
