The Upper Peninsula in Michigan is a winning region, according to Snow Goer Magazine, and you’ll find countless trails in the UP that can’t be fully explored in one winter alone. Next up for overall region is Quebec, which is well worth an international trip. The Northwoods in Wisconsin comes in third.
Other great mentions include Bottineau, North Dakota; Old Forge in New York; and West Yellowstone in Montana. However, the most scenic award goes to Cooke City in Montana, which gives the UP and Quebec a run for their money. Riders also adore Jackson, Wyoming; Stanley, Idaho; and everywhere in Vermont.
Hit the Trails
If you prefer more adrenaline rushes than stunning vistas, head to one of the 2,500 snowmobile trails in the UP for your joyrides. You’ll find gentle hills, lakes and streams frozen rock-hard, and turns that are every rider’s dream come true. You can ride for miles — days! — without ever looping back to the same trails. St. Germain, Wisconsin, is another fantastic choice, as is Eagle River and the Continental Divide Trail.
UTV lovers who prefer the best powder need to dig deeper. More powder means more “big snow,” and big play areas blend excitement with stunning views. The Keweenaw Peninsula in Michigan is a must, or head to the Rocky Mountains for an entirely different kind of powder you won’t find anywhere else in the country. Togwotee, Wyoming, is a safe bet, but try out different regions to learn what powder is best suited for your thrill seeking.

Some riders are so seasoned they need technical trails that keep them on their toes. Reading a terrain is a learned skill, and it’s one that you can hone along the right trails. Try out the Speculator in New York.
